David Berman Communication’s longtime client, OSCIA, developed a highly successful program in 1993 called the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) program. An EFP is an assessment voluntarily prepared by a farm family to increase their environmental awareness in up to 23 different areas on their farm. A few years ago, it was decided to give the program its own identity and David asked me to be part of his team. The logo (top left) reflects the goal of each EFP – to provide family farms with what they need to improve the sustainability of their farming practices in all the aspects of sustainable farming – taking care of the soil, the water, the air, and the biodiversity of wildlife. The parallel stripes resemble the distinctive pattern created on the land when it is tilled. Together they form a shape now referred to as the ‘bird’ (an indicator of a healthy environment). Blue represents the water and the air; green – the biodiversity, and brown – the soil.
The workbook (bottom left) gets updated every few years. We’re on edition 4.0. The presentation folder (bottom right) holds inserts that tell the success stories of farm families who participated in the program.
